My late father was in the RAOC and subsequently a POW in Germany. I do not have a lot of information and do not know how to ascertain which regiment he was in - could you tell me how I find out please? I have his Army Number, POW number and he was from Staffordshire. I believe he was captured in or near Besancon, France, at the beginning of the war. I also understand that he did escape from the POW camp together with a Frenchman and they made their way through Poland - but how this can be confirmed I do not know. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This might help explain the organisation of the RAOC companies etc in WW2, also if you can post name and service number along with the POW number im sure that you will get plenty of advice and help. Organsation of other units

Hi Marguay and welcome to the Forum

Would it be possible to tell us your Father's full name and army serial number. Our POW expert might find that useful.

    Regards - Rob

I am wondering whether I have posted this in the wrong department?
