    Op. Training.

    Took off from Lossiemouth for a night navigation exercise over the North Sea. Last heard on W/T sending SOS and indicating that the port engine had failed and height could not be maintained. It is assumed that shortly after 1806 hrs the aircraft went into the sea some 70 miles east of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Other crews in the exercise area reported very bad weather and heavy seas. All nine crew killed.
