Found a couple of photos in the war dairy of the above unit. The first has a list of the men in the photo, sadly the second one does not. They might possibly be officers. Still nice to be able to post them.
Thanks Rob these are the guys who made it. Most dont remember/know that the Canadian army in Europe were all volunteers no conscripts left Canada until late 1944 and only a handful ever made it into action in the final weeks of the war. It is abit ironic that the 'Zombies' as they were known received the same pay while serving out the war on home defence.
Hello, I found a photo of a member of the 22e Regiment in Enschede in 1945 but it had no date. Do you know when the regiment was in Enschede, The Netherlands? Is there anything about that in the war diary that you mentioned? The reason I am asking is because I am building a website about Enschede in WWII.
Second.... The Vandoos ( 22E regt) were in the 3rd bde of 1st Cdn Division which left Italy in Feb '45 for Belgium along with 5th Cdn Armoured to join their other three divisions to make up the 1st Cdn Army - so you have only March and April to worry about as the war diary should cover those dates Cheers
Sorry, WW2.nl, I've only got the war diary for May 1945 and they were not in Enschede during this month.
Rob, A nice find. Secondworldwar-nl, you should send a PM to Dryan67 who has many Canadian war diaries. Failing that, I can provide the contact info of a very good researcher based in Ottawa as recommended by forum member Klambie. Cheers from Toronto
The photo was taken in Naaldwijk I think, a village between Hook of Holland and Delft in the province of Zuid-Holland.
