Saw this thread and looked for my Grandfather, he is not listed, the following may6 be of interest to you:

Samuel Oliver Alec Palmer, Warrant Officer Class II (C.S.M.), 6007427, Lancashire Fusiliers. Samuel was born at Romford Essex on 24 January 1910. He was probably stationed with the Essex Regiment at Penally when he met and married Kitty Clark at Tenby in 1933, and the couple resided with Kitty's parents at Laston House, in Tenby Harbour. The couple had four children, Margaret, Colin, Roy, and Robin. Samuel was a well known athlete, and in 1939 he was the British Athletic Association 6 mile record holder. At sometime prior to 1943, Samuel was posted to the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, which was in the Far East, attached to 77 Brigade of the famous Chindits. On 5 March 1944 the Chindits flew into Burma, to take part in their second operation against the Japanese. Samuel was killed in action during the assault on the Japanese garrison at Moguang on 18. June 1944. He was 34 years old, and is buried at Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar. Samuel is not commemorated on the Tenby Memorial. Many thanks to Neil Palmer for the details.

CL1: Thanks but I already checked (as no doubt did you!)
and the Names still were waiting to be transcribed.
Whilst CWGC provides as long list of those with Romford connections, no doubt there are more Names thereon.
I have offered Harri the CWGC Lists for WW1 ans WW2 and am happy to assist with other Names if required.

He had another couple of brothers and sisters after 1911 census.

I have his birth certificate and service record, he joined Essex Regt. in 1928, went to reserve in 1934 and mobilized in 1939. During reserve service he ran for the Mitchum Harriers Athletic Club, in 1939 he was British National Champion 6 Mile (10,000M).

Sadly nearly all photos of him were lost when our house was flooded in 1983, we are trying to get some from other family members but proving elusive.

On one of the newsreels of Chindits, there is one that my father always said was him, we are working on getting a good quality copy.

He was a Romford Boy, born in Harolds Wood.

Only Phylis Clark in our family (that I know of) was daughter of my Grandmothers (Kitty Palmer (nee Clark and then remarried to Logg), Brother Cyril Charles Clark and his wife Kathleen???

 

Yes that’s my Nan. Phylis Clark.
She Married William Edward Morton (Ted) we have a letter somewhere from her father saying how he was not able to make her wedding and he would enclose £5 as a gift .
She married my grandad ( he was raised in penally , and they had 3 Children Diane first (my mum) she’s 61 now . My Uncle David younger by a few years then my Aunty Rosie .
My mum has 3 children including me & 12 grandchildren . My uncle di has 2 children & my auntie rose has one fur baby poppy !
