    Hi James

My comment was meant for CL1 - we (CL1 & I) have over the years worked on many of Mavis's threads, and we realise that she is researching all the people on her local memorial and that there will be costs involved, However I would guess by now that the research would be nearing completion and therefore there cant be that many to go. This would also suggest that the few that are left on her memorial research are the harder ones to resolve but this also means that finding the details of those few could be covered cost wise

I fully appreciate your efforts and resolve in wanting to answer this question

That’s because you were applying as family. My own grandmothers records were complete

however I obtained 1 copy of a airman’s record A few years ago and everything except name number and squadron numbers with dates were redacted

even his dob was blanked out and the wife’s name, (both were listed on the death certificate), and course details.

It may have changed recently as they had been lots of complaints

Thank you all for the input and TD is right, Clive & TD with lots of other members, too many to mention, please forgive me, have helped me so much through the years, obviously with WW2, but I have also researched all the memorials in my area for the WW1 fallen as well as the WW2. I would not have been able to do it without this forum, as well as other forums. I really appreciate the reception I have had from you all, your patience especially. However, over 10 years I must have spent well over £3000, as I am self funding, and I haven't finished yet. Don't get me wrong, it has been a labour of love, and I have received back from families lots of appreciation, which makes it all worth while. This isn't about the money, but I just want to make sure that they are all remembered in my area, not just surnames and initials, as on most memorials. I probably will, when I can afford it get around to Dorothy's Records, but not at the moment. Regards, Mavis

Thank you James for your understanding, I have been in your position, when I found 23 men on Connah's Quay & Shotton & 9 from Hawarden for WW1, they have at last got a memorial which the Councils and Interservices Committee was able to fund. I have now found more for WW2, so it's onwards and upwards. I would appreciate any information, as Dorothy, through her connection to Tom Roberts, her husband, who was from Hawarden, was not on the Memorial for WW2. If eventually there is a plaque for Hawarden WW2 missing Servicemen and women, then I would like to add her on if her connection can be confirmed to Hawarden.
    Thanks again, Mavis

Well done Mavis for all your work too
My banging on about service records re this case would be £30 well spent. We have seen many threads expanding and in the end we get a bit bogged down. James has done very well in investigating and hopefully everyone will be on the right track.

    Regards
    Clive

Thank you Clive for your kind words, I am also in the process of trying to find out about another soldier and the cost of copies of the war diaries would be £25 if I was to get them, so as you know it all mounts up. Yes hopefully James may be able to shed some light on things and find out if my Tom Roberts is the same Tom Roberts he is researching. Kind regards, Mavis

James have a look at this Hawarden WW2 Servicemen
Mavis and a team of people are researching so thats where the info will end up.
Realistically if you have info then it is Mavis who will use it.
I would assume if you dont want them online line then the update on the website would be " Recent investigation has uncovered information that Dorothy and Tom were Wife and Husband"

    regards

Thank you James, and Clive for telling James where my work ends up, I have just received an email that was forwarded from you. I will reply to you privately, thank you for your dogged investigation, I need the connection to Hawarden as otherwise I cannot get her on any forthcoming plaque for missed servicemen and women from WW2 that I hope will eventually be laid on the War Memorial at Hawarden.
Thank you Clive again, "speak" soon James! Regards, Mavis
