Further to my last. From the service record that started all this thread, we find the man being busted from Sgt to Gnr and the authority being Commander 22 AA Brigade. This must surely imply that this was the higher formation to which 467 was subordinate - may find it easier to check on them.

  2. hello again Ron,
i've been coming across some excellent information - will post some of it in the next couple of weeks.
i'm wondering about a couple of things: did you still wear your artillery cap badge when transferred to armoured?
    and where was your retraining?
thirdly, do you have a link to your own personal story and records? i came across it i believe, but now cannot find it.
    thank you :)

  4. Thanks Ron!
While I’m sorry you had to adopt a black beret, I’m personally kind of partial to them ;)
But I will make good use of your links :)
    Thank you again!

  5. here's a good story about my grand dad in italy!
my question: "court of inquiry" on the 13th - does anyone know where to find these records?
as you can see, i have the action reports from immediately after the incident but would love to know what the court decided..
    cheers :)

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing. I expect that a copy of the court of enquiry would likely still be on the service file of the British Soldier who was killed in the incident and other copies would go up through the chain of command but will likely have been destroyed over the past 70+ years.

  7. thanks Steve :)
i don't think my wife will let me spend more money on requesting his service records...but once again, a very good idea!
    cheers :)

    Hi Jeremy,

The reason I say a report will likely be in his file is that online Canadian & Australian files I've seen do have court of enquiry papers for non battle casualties & accidental deaths etc.

However having said it'll likely be in the MOD file I doubt they would release it with his service papers.

  9. okay, thanks :)

  10. hello all,
i just wanted to say thank you again from the bottom of my heart! all the assistance, information, and ideas from many of you made this project a fascinating experience.
i feel i have a decent outline of my grand dad's time in the service. i compiled a lot of information and made this 'shadowbox' for my dad - he was very happy with it all. a little overwhelmed but happy :) considering this all started with his dad's medals stored (without ribbons) in the back of his sock drawer, it has been quite a journey.
i still have a few unanswered questions, maybe even dead ends, but need to focus on other things for the moment. but when i get a chance, i'll get back into digging around.
    cheers :)
