    As the anniversary of the liberation of Rome looms close, I thought I would share a photo with you all. It shows my father, Bert Reed, then a Gunner in the 24th Field Regiment RA, attached to the 5th Army, on the outskirts of Rome as the Americans liberated it. He was one of the first British soldiers into Rome.

    My father is the one in Battledress with his back to the camera on the left. He remembered the photo being taken, but it took years to find it!

    This what he looked like from the front at the time!

    I'm pleased to say he is fit and well, living in retirement in Sussex, aged 85.
