Since 1850, we've had public libraries. Some say the odd one or two still exist.

I hope they find the body, it would be a very important historical find. As to the man...well, from what I can tell he was an excellent soldier and an unscrupulous climber otherwise. Just because the Tudors came top and did him the dirty is no reason to exaggerate his virtues.

(BTW: There's Herricks all over Leicester, streets, institutions & surnames. One of those regional monikers.)

It is most interesting and everyone is awaiting the DNA Tests.

It sounds quite promising from reading the published accounts.

    - I think there was another usurper after 1485 to take into account, think 18th century, think Hanover

    Now now now...

Just because you silly English run out of Kings and have to ask the good people of Hannover (spelling, please), who happen to be mine own folk, for a loan of one, does not make him an ursurper. If you lot hadn't been so careless with your own, we would never have gotten involved.

Just fancy that. Do your neighbours a favour, and next thing you know they call you an usurper.

At least we gave you some kings for not far off 200 years, so a bit of gratitude wouldn't go amiss, now would it?

    Usurper, pffff...

I'll reserve a corner at the car park for us.

    All the best

This is shaping up quite nicely. We may need a series of bouts.

    Andreas,

    I like it.

I, myself, am not going to fight for/against a particular king or a queen - although my ancestors did fight against a number of them, and once or twice fought on behalf of one or two of them, and I like to think that one of them helped to behead one of them.

I do accept your sense of indignity at my comments to some extent, but being 56th most eligible was stretching it a bit - shame that none of the top 55 was called Richard, which might have persuaded the invitors to uninvite. Though there could have been a decent X Factor type competition to decide who would take over possession of the silk stockings.

Careless no doubt. Ungrateful no doubt..

    best,

(Clive - mind how you pronounce Boadicea, that can get heated too... but I've not seen or engaged in pugilism over it.)[/QUOTE]

    oh blimey ,good point VP

me thinks if I now change the spelling I could be accused of being a revisionist or down right trouble maker
i hear the sound of chariots now

Any way back to Richard III (3) Third .Covering all options

I guess it just goes to show that the first 55 must have been a magnificent bunch of losers (or Catholics, take your pick), and that quality always wins through (think Austin Allegro/Volkswagen Golf).

Challenging a German to an X-Factor competition is cruel and unusual however, since all we have to offer are look-/soundalikes of Boney M, the Scorpions, and of course David Hasselhoff.

I would also argue that choosing the House of Hannover was probably a reflection of the well-known trouble English speakers have with foreign languages. Just think if you had ended up with the house of Brunswick-Lueneburg, or the Palatinate. Someone somewhere decided to spare you lot these tongue-breakers.

    Good day to you Sir!

    Hey,

Don't start knocking that exceptional piece of British engineering (for it's time, cause it did not last very long) the AllAgro. You need to look beyond the product. It took some pure genius to produce a car that trained a nation to be car mechanics, body fillers and paint sprayers, and look at the range of products that became available from Halfords to support it! Specialist paints that gave the apperance of orange skin. Certainly kept the menfolk busy on a Sunday afternoon, gave them something to moan about other than the economy (the price of beer to you and me) and the weather and provided an excuse other than the potting shed to get away from the missus.

Anyway, getting back to the subject. How many corners does this car park have? Just thinking about the fight and the various entrants that are looking to join in.

Can l be in charge of the beer tent? Just thinking of all those good Yorkshire brews that l can put on sale. That would certainly weaken the opposition.

Anyway, think Dolomite Sprint v's whatever you like - at the time, with that exceptional overdive button

I had a fully backed up, heavily researched, bullet proof arguement to support the AllAgro, but you destroyed it in four words! "It's OK with Cleggy"

Trying to get their conviction rate up!!!!

Interesting quote "Richard had been a constant thorn in the side of the police, having set up the ‘Court of Requests’ in 1483 to provide legal aid to those in need, even scousers." Even scoucers!!!! Can we reserve a corner for them? They will be happy with the Yorkshire brew.

Given the possibility for some multiple arguments here, I am willing to act as a corner man : -

I'll be the one wearing the t shirt emblazoned "anti monarchist, Irish (with a bit of Lancastrian), Catholic, non Tory, who is slightly in favour of King Richard III"...

I'm sure they'll be plenty supporting my side in the rumble that would follow.

I am from Essex (though my Dad was born in Lancs) so can I claim to be neutral?
If not I will try a quick getaway in the Dolly Sprint, one of my favourites.
