My grandfather was one of 13 from his battalion who survived and came back on a ship from Crete during WW2.

As my grandfather died long before I was born can anyone tell me anything about what he would have been doing in Crete and the ship he came back on?

He was in the Royal Engineers.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The first thing I would do is apply for his service records to ID what RE unit he was serving with. Once you have done this you will know what war diaries to read that give a day to day account of what his unit was doing and much more.

One thing you can guarantee is that his main task was to be one of those survivors- like all of us
