I do remember my mum saying she had more brothers, obviously people never had games consoles or internet in those days, and contraception was not on anyones agenda!!! With all the information i have, im going to show my mum and could probably get a family tree done. This site is absolutely invaluable, i wouldnt have known where to start. Thanks again.

It seems Owen had at least 1 brother
    Fredrick James
    1905–
BIRTH ABT 1905 • Manordify, Pembrokeshire, Wales
    DEATH Unknown

There is a public tree on Ancestry that holds info on this family (ref link http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/59726864/family?cfpid=38242829251) so if you join Ancestry then this link will take you to their tree.
OR if you start your own then the system should/will cross reference yours to theirs

Thats brill. Some amazing acts of bravery carried out by many. One of the reasons we should never forget their sacrifices. Such a shame that lessons still don't seem to be learnt and when our politicians fail us, the easy option seems to be calling in the military to annihilate countries that are quite frankly,in a poor state to start with. Sorry. Rant over.

Ive just completed the application forms from the MOD to get copies of their service records. The one thing theyre asking for is a death certificate for the individual. If for some reason my mother and father do not have copies of these, how would i go about getting a copy.

You can obtain a copy from the Registrar's office where it was registered assuming he died after the war was over. If he died during the war then his CWGC details will suffice and replace the need for a death cert.

If you have a problem finding the details then post his name, year of death, age and/or where he died and I will have a look for you

If its this guy whose death cert you are after:
Owen Glyndwr James in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007
    Name: Owen Glyndwr James
    Birth Date: 7 Feb 1902
    Date of Registration: Dec 1969
    Age at Death: 67
    Registration district: Cardigan
    Inferred County: Pembrokeshire
    Volume: 8a
    Page: 1037

Then you will need to contact - Pages - Births, Deaths, Marriages & Civil Partnerships - give them the details as above, paythem some money and they will send you a copy.

Alternatively any proof of death will do like a photograph of a headstone or a undertakers invoice etc.

Not according to the MOD anymore Andy, see new post by Alan 20 mins ago

Due to a recent change in policy has dictated that photographs, Crematorium Notices, Obituries or Death Register Index are insufficient for the purposes of establishing identity.

Obtaining Death Certificate from USA for (British Service Records request).

    MOD tightening the rules??

edit: Yes Andy you've seen it too

Due to a recent change in policy...

Which rather leads to the questions: which policy was changed, by whom and why?

Well it's a Government rip-off right? First they want your 30 quid and now for every application they expect you to pay for a certificate from the GRO or local register office and pay another 9 quid or more. And what's more, we are daft enough to pay it.

Don't get me started on government rip offs. DLA to PIP is proper taking the piss out of disabled people. Anyway I digress.
