Hello all, I've come across an African star engraved "M20334 J Rooskrans" and i'm keen to find out more about this person. I am aware that this is part of a set that has been broken up as the remainder is for sale on a South african collectors site. I'm not familiar with researching SA personnel so would appreciate any tips to get me started. Thanks, Mac.
A search of CWGC suggests that the M prefix indicates service in the Indian and Malay Corps, S.A. Forces or possibly Cape Corps, S.A. Forces or Native Military Corps, S.A. Forces. The Observation Post is a good source to explore. N.B. Details of the other medals might provide someone with some inspiration.
Hi, Simple google search for South Africa Defence Force gives these two links as contacts for SADF service files - South Africa Military Records Genealogy - FamilySearch Wiki Documentation Centre (Department of Defence Force Archives) – Registry – Archival Platform Good Luck. Steve
Thanks both for your replies. Roberto, the other medals (that i know of) are 39-45 star, Italy star & war medal. Docs centre emailed Steve.
