Hello, This is my post on this interesting forum. I am an American collector who now lives in Norway. I recently purchased a WW2 British made Brodie helmet with a Canadian liner with a serial number on the chin strap. Can someone please help me research that?

Attached is a picture of the helmet.

    Thank you.

    Scott

The service number is C30365, as shown in the photo.

    Hi,

This soldiers service file should be available via Library & Archives (LAC) Ottawa.

I’m not 100% sure of the access rules so you might want to check the site. I’m sure one of our Canadian members will be able to put you in touch with a researcher to copy his file if access is permitted.

    Good Luck

    Steve

    EDIT TO ADD

Here is a link to a Canadian Casualty with a very close army number. Enlisted July 1940 into Canadian Engineers in Ontario and died 10th June 1944.

C30365 is in a block of service numbers assigned to No. 3 District Depot in Ottawa. Not helpful in determining a unit to narrow your search. His records are the way to go.

Someone on another thread indicating an 18 month wait for records via this normal method:

    http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/transparency/atippr/Pages/Access-information-military-files.aspx

but I think you will be stuck without proof of death. There is an ATIP link on that page that might otherwise let you get around that (I've never used it) but is limited to Canadian citizens. I can recommend a researcher that I and others here have used who can get a file via that method. He can usually turn it around in about a month and last time I used him charged about $30 CAD per file. PM me, or reply here and I can PM details if interested.
