Quick technical aside Richard, you're copying with a camera right? Have you got a macro setting on the camera? (usually a little flower symbol on a wheel or button).

If you're using it already then sorry for suggesting it, but if not then it should be worth a try as it's designed with this kind of thing in mind.

Will have to wait until you get his Service Records then, I can imagine that after leaving Hospital he was posted to KOYLI and not back to RSF, pure speculation of course but quite likely.

So what day is it today then ? "Take the proverbial out of Payney day" ?:)

One day, when the 2nd Div Norton's finished I shall build a bike with the 5 Div "Y" on so any info is useful.

I have a suspicion that they might be Ariels but my eyes are not quite sharp enough for that image. Where would that picture have been taken ? I assume a Depot in Scotland ? If so then presumably 1941. Does that fit in with the Carrier serials ?

May I help? Do not be surprised at the apparent movements between regiments, or anything else's in war time. They would disband one lot, and do an immediate transfer to another, the same day.

Not really unusual at all in war time. To give you an example we were called together after the invasion in Normandy. then asked "anyone want to join the Airborne?" 6th that was. My mate a pipe smoking Scot stepped forward, within an hour he was paratrooper.

The Duke of Wellingtons Regiment. If I recall? got a bad fighting reputation. I hope I have this right? its a long time ago. If not, then I apologise!

The officer in charge got the push, even though he could do little with his men??? and that regiment was split up amongst many other regiments.
Some went to the East Yorks Regiment...Fine fighting men..... Some of my favourites!

    Brian,
You're right with the 6th DoW's being disbanded in Normandy.

2RSF weren't disbanded though, they fought until the end of the war with 5th Div.

Richard, your Grandad missed this because he was in hospital.
If he hadn't had mumps he could have been busy kissing Italian women.

    Richard,

My grandad served with 2RSF - captured at Anzio on 29 May 44. He was originally a Cameron Highlander who ended up in the RSF. Don't yet know how or why!

    Roxy

PS I've been to Misterbianco and I'm sure that lad is still there - attached to that woman!!!
