Now I know how Brinsley Plunket died. His death certificate gives as the cause of death:

"Injuries received as the result of an accidental fall from a window."

Now, would there have been an inquest, or an enquiry and, if so, where would I find the report?

    Reviving this thread –

In September, 2014, I received a letter from the Air Historical Branch (RAF) at RAF Northolt, to the effect that:

'RAF casualty files are in the process of being transferred to the National Archives where they will be made available to the public.'

Does anyone know if they are available, yet? If so, where should I look?

Thanks, TD, that gives a little more detail than I had.

What I would really like to find out is any report on the circumstances of the accident. He fell from a second-storey window. Is there any news of those RAF casualty files?

The AHB is talking about the "RAF Casualty Packs". They're to be found in AIR/81 at Kew.

    However, it's a slow process. I haven't seen anything past 1940 in Kew's catalog.

    Regards,

    Hi Belville

Reading the document I attached there seems to be one or two that have similar injuries/causes of death around about the same time, I'm not sure, obviously, but the question arises, is this is coincidence or perhaps one event that happened, where there was more than one casualty that eventually died of injuries received ??

For example Popworth (Leslie John) seems to have died from very similar injuries 2 weeks before ??

    Hi, TD,

According to my information, Brinsley Plunket died only two days after the accident, so that excludes Leslie John Popworth, I think,

The next entry, after Plunket, is Bernard Frederick Holder, who died on 23rd November, of a "Fracture of the skull and other injuries". The odd thing is that he died a day earlier, but the entry is after Plunket's.

Unfortunately for a theory that they occurred in the same incident, however, is the fact that the deaths were in Port Sudan and Khartoum, and they are nearly 450 miles apart!

'The AHB is talking about the "RAF Casualty Packs". They're to be found in AIR/81 at Kew.'

Dave, thank you very much for that lead. I will follow it up with the Archives.

    Hi Belville

It will be interesting to see what you can find out, there seems to be a few with 'fractures to the skull' and 'shock', seems to be an unhealthy place in the summer/autumn of 1941.

Re Holder, that could have been a delay in sending/receiving the information for record purposes, it could also be they were in the same accident (between Khartoum and Port Sudan) but ended up at different hospitals/medical facilities for whatever reasons.

    Mysterious -
