Remembrance Sunday November 10th 2013. Just coming to life again after a fairly strenuous day in Whitehall. My day started at 0730 am with a trip by tube to Piccadilly and then after fortifying myself with a Capuccina & a Danish pastry I walked down to Horseguards to find the AJEX contingent. On route I found myself in conversation with an ex copper who was now a driver for one of the London Ambassadors and he told me his boss would be at the Cenotaph and would be lunching on Whitehall after the parade. A long wait before the march into Whitehall where we line up in serried ranks to watch the service on the huge monitors that had been set up for this purpose. This year our column got to march off fairly early after the service and the reviewing officer was Princess Anne, Back home by 1:45 pm. What was different this year was being asked for photographs on no less than four occasions by tourists who obviously regarded the Cenotaph ceremony as yet another tourist attraction. Found literally one second of video of myself and the Ajex wreath laying, did anyone else spot me Ron
It was a long day out for you and the other Veterans, Ron. Well done for turning out and still looking so dapper!
We'll done, Ron. I watched the Parade on my own, no one to observe when a tear was shed feeling the sadness of all those years of the Second World War . . . and then had a dram of malt before making my lunch. As Aye, sending best wishes, Joe
A great group photograph you put up there. I missed it showing on tv as I took my girls to the parade which my husband was in. I recorded it though and am going to watch it soon, I'll see if I can spot you My husband had lots of little boys stop him after the parade here and politely ask if they could have their photograph taken with him and his friend - of course they obliged. It was very sweet.
We had a good day, those of us from the Flower Class Corvette Association. Some sadness that two of our 'regulars' have 'crossed the bar' since last November and were not with us, leavened with the pleasant surprise of a Flower veteran who had never been to an Association meeting or the Cenotaph, but decided that in his 90th year he would come from his home in Cyprus. Then, the CO of HMCS Sackville - the last of the Flowers, preserved as Canada's National Naval Memorial in Halifax, Nova Scotia and still in commission, and his wife made themselves known to us. A good day all round, as it always is.
Ron, there was a very quick shot of you with the AJEX group as you marched past the cenotaph. Glad u had a good day
The Service here in Berlin was cold and windy, but the rain earlier stopped and it remained dry. Immediately after the CWGC Cemetry Service there is another Service at St George's Church. Regards Tom
Perfect weather in London, cool, but crisp and bright. Good numbers at the Chindit Memorial and could hear all that was going on at the Cenotaph, best of both worlds. Well done Ron.
good day ron Goldstein.ww2 veteran. yesterday. 06:49pm.re:remembrance sunday.nov.10th.2013..great photo's of you and your friends, also the cenotaph.thank you for posting.best regards bernard85

Many thanks for all your kind comments and for Fred's most moving video that reminds us of the huge contribution made by the Canadians over so many years. Whilst sorting through the few pics taken on the day, I've added this pic of the un-named Italian tourists with whom I chatted about life in ww2 Bari (from where they came) and tried to tell them what the Remembrance Day service was all about. Ron
Ron, Truly excellent. By the way it wasn't you who was chatting up my Dad's mate's, (Charles Ward) wife, Margaret, who was on parade with the FANYs. Margaret said she was chatting to some chaps from the AJEX group. Charles ("Pip") is 95 next month and Margaret is 90 in March. best
Richard Now there's a bloody coincidence ! It wasn't me but I literally saw the conversation taking place. The young FANY girls are always directly in front of the AJEX group and on a previous year I took some photos of them on parade and sent it one of the young ladies. Ron
Ron, Nice one. I was chatting to Charles and Margaret this morning and they had mentioned it - and I said I thought she was chatting to "someone" called Ron Goldstein so thought I would check with you. Margaret was SOE (signals) from 1943 onwards in Tunisia, and then Italy and Charles joined SOE (ciphers) after being medically downgraded after Bou Arada/Stuka Farm from 2 London Irish Rifles - he was on parade with 1st Army yesterday (the one with the caubeen)...they met in 1943 and married in 1946...they don't write stories like that nowadays. best
Ron just watching this now & saw you marching past. also was pleased to see a Recce contingent marching past. Cheers Paul
Bexley84 Thought you might like this pic dated November 2011 Paul The RECCE lads put on a very good show and got their fair share of applause both from the marchers AND the crowd ! Ron
Ron, Thanks again. Margaret probably won't thank me for being able to recognise the back of her head - she's the lady on the left with the stick. Last year Margaret attended the parade but wasn't able to march - this year her daughter wheeled her. best,
