After the recent/usual internal debate, I did, as per, eventually potter down to the shambolic local service.
Sillouette soldiers. Some puffed-up very local dignitaries I personally know to be Cs that are only there because they're expected to be.
The Fishwife & her Cub/Scout pack at least making an effort.
Still left after the silence (Vogon poetry avoidance continues).
Still charmed by those colours bobbing up afterwards.

They finally managed to hit the silence at 1100.
    Unusual.
    Appreciated.
(Chap in charge looked so relieved, as I know it bugs him as much as myself. 1125 one year! I blame a somewhat droning like he's had a stroke measured Methodist speaker...)

I miss living in a city that can do an actual bit of pomp, but it remains a good thing, and turnout of people less cynical than me remains decent.

Beautiful, sunny day in London today.

I joined a marching contingent of 30 London Irish Riflemen at the RBL National Parade today - lads and lady on parade ranged in age from 37 to 85 years. The LIR suffered just under 2,000 deaths during two World Wars as well as being awarded 67 Battle Honours from South Africa, Belgium, France, Macedonia, Palestine, Tunisia and Italy.

For myself, I carried the Regimental wreath, while closely holding fond memories of my mother and father who served a combined total of 10 years service in the London Irish Rifles and the ATS from 1939 to 1946. While waiting in Whitehall I couldn't fail to note the War Office Building where my mother worked from 1944 to 1946.
