    Grant was born to George Edward Cahoon and Annie Louise Alder. He had eight siblings: Ireta Alder, Albert Edward, Jay Alder, DeRaunz Alder, Ellen Alder, Leon Alder, Rex Alder, and Lervae Alder. Grant was a flying officer (air bomber) with the Royal Canadian Air Force in the 426th Squadron. Grant was killed in World War II while valiantly serving his country.
