From War Diary 19 April 0600 hrs During night inf of 36 and 38 Bdes with A Sqn still deployed on left flank protection advanced north to establish bridgeheads over Scolo Bolognese west of Portomaggiore 2669. by first light A Sqn had collected 19 PsW area rd junc 204655 and driven off more enemy from that objective, which Sqn now firmly held. 0800 hrs RHQ moved to 229654 and concd there together with SP Bty and C Sqn. A Sqn and elements of C patrolled westwards towards Po Morto di Primaro between 64 and 70 Northings. Enemy were contacted and engaged on line 185666 – 203668 in dug-in posns and in houses, and from rd junc 204655 due south. Enemy SP guns were engaged by arty. 1335 hrs An M8 of C Sqn received a direct hit from an enemy A/Tk gun. One offr and 2 ORs killed. Patrols were accompanied by the 75mm guns of SP Bty which proved to be of valuable assistance as single guns in support. 1430 hrs Air support was called for giving locations of all fwd tps. 1600 hrs An LO from 36 Bde came to RHQ and gave plans as follows:- (a) 6 Armd Div conc in present Regtl sector and to attack west and northwest over Po di Primaro; (b) 11 Bde to conc and with armour of 2nd Armd Bde to attack northwards over Scolo Bolognese bridgehead; (c) Regt to conc and await further orders. 1715 hrs C Sqn reported elements of 6 Armd Div having passed through them and in contact with enemy. One offr and one OR slightly wounded by shellfire in f.d.l.s. CO issued orders for C Sqn to conc area 229653, A Sqn 222656. Total enemy casualties caused since last light 18th April, PsW – 57, 12 killed (2 from 42nd Jaeger Div who stated Div now reduced to strength of one Battle Group “Jest”). Inspection of area from which M8 was shot-up revealed 4 enemy half-tracks destroyed; one veh and 75mm A/Tk gun destroyed; one veh and gun abandoned. 36 Bde Op Instr (Reported Lines), 78 Div Op Instr (Codenames), 36 Bde Mov Instr received.
