RIP. Corporal H J Morris :poppy:

On 18 June 1944 the 6th Bn Durham Light Infantry were ordered to push on to the road running south-west from Tilly-sur-Seulles to Hottot. There was support from three regiments of artillery and tanks, the latter which moved level with the infantry.

The attack commenced at 14.30 pm, with the infantry moving off at 14.45 pm - C Company on the right and D Company on the left. The Germans were blasted from there positions by a mixture of shell and bullet, and the 6th Bn had reached its objective on the high ground south-west of Tilly by 17.00 pm.

Having dug in the 6th Bn awaited the German counter-attack and it is reported that, later, two Mk IV (Special) tanks were knocked out.

Casualties were light - 10 KIA, including Cpl Morris, reported in the Roll of Honour in the battalion history.
