    Hi

At the time of his death his squadron was stationed at Gambut, Egypt flying Beaufighter TF Mk. X aircraft assigned to ‘Armed Rover’ patrols over the Eastern Mediterranean. Shot down off Leros, north of Kos.

Also killed with John was his pilot, Flying Officer 50176 William Walker Thwaites of Sunderland. (CWGC - Casualty Details)

Three British aircraft were shot down in the engagement, these being serial numbers LX883, LZ125 and LX925. It has not been confirmed which was John’s aircraft.
