Just getting around to sorting out my old mans war services, trouble is he has been dead for some years, I know he was in the REME and have applied for his records, told that before the war he was in the territorials, so he would have been one of the first to be called up, anyone know if this is true, and can anyone recommend books or sites where I can get a better understanding of the REMe for WW11 Aldersdale
I'm in regular ish contact with a WW2 Vet who was in the REME. He repaired radio's in North Africa, Italy and Palestine. If you get stuck on anything specific REME I'm happy to ask him for you.
Hi Aldersdale. Craftsmen of the Army is the book that was recommended to me. I have ordered it from AbeBooks but you can order a copy from the REME site. REME Association Shop - Books, CDs and DVDs Jules.
Aldersdale Welcome on board If your Old Man was in the TA pre war then he may have been RAOC (Royal Army Ordanance Corps) the REME came into being in Sept/Oct 1942 time frame. Yes he would have been called up almost as soon as the announcement was made, it may help you if you can find out which TA unit he was with or post any other details of his service you may have and the members will help you to unravel the details
