Before Pegasus Bridge and Arnhem, there was Bruneval and Tunisia. Few movies have been about the Parachute Regiment in WW II and here is one which has been forgotten by most: Red Beret (Paratrooper) - Alan Ladd, Leo Genn 1953 - YouTube
Thanks for the link - just watched it and quite enjoyed it Unnecessary shots of the other Red Beret attached:
One of the first 'fillums' that I can remember - saw it at the Sunderland Empire(?) in '53/'54 PZULBA - Out of Africa (Retired)
Ah, the full movie, thanks SS. The script was re-written to accommodate Ladd and renamed Paratrooper for the American market. Ladd's star appeal was quite high at time having just finished the western Shane. A bit of a sell out in my opinion but that's the way it usually goes with the entertainment business. Still it seems to be remembered quite fondly by most. Geoffry Pine-Coffin formerly CO 7th Parachute Battalion and Tim Carew acted as advisors George A. Moodie of the 9th Parchute battalion mentions having a background role.
Scout - never seen that before - kept me up 'til 2.am. though - but enjoyable- did the balloon drop at Oxford when John - brother of Geoffrey Pine - Coffin invited me to join - what became known as Brigadier Fitzroy McLeans " Mission to Tito" - happily I failed the trick cyclist " look" at me but met up with Bob Cross later in Rome - he had lost a leg - couldn't find it anywhere he said - typical in those days Cheers
I watch this last night with my brother both of us remembering Little bits of it. I would like to see a good print of it. I thought Alan Ladd was going to die at the end all the way thought the plot. Very good cast but the film was a little bit luck luster. Why did they have no guns in the Dakota and why was it silver? Nice Denison smocks. Thanks for posting it up
