Never really been able to get on to well with stratagy games, but enjoy the Brother in arms games. Recomend me a good WW2 stratagy game, prefrably with a little action in it and not to dry. Kev
Codename Panzers is one of the better 'real time' strategy games I've played. Steel Panthers World at War (SPWaW) is a free download (450 odd meg) overhead turn-based Strategy not unlike the old board games, probably is a bit dry if you're not into that stylee, good campaigns though and huge variety of vehicles. The very best mind-meltingly complicated strategy I've played is 'Hearts of Iron; Doomsday' could be described as dry as F**k. but I find it quite frantic balancing Diplomacy, Industry, Intelligence, Technology and the battlefield. My main rule of thumb with strategy games is if it makes any sense at all for the first couple of days then it's probably not going to be much cop in the long run, been playing HOI for ages and I still find new things to do.
I would also recommed HOI2. Its nothing short of brilliant. In Depth but very playable! Combat Mission is the ultimate Strategy Game though IMHO. Its graphics are a little dated but I challenge you not to feel frustrated as you discover a Panther tank rolling up a road you sent infantry down!!
GH Have you played this yet? I'm just trying to download the demo. Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmbb/cmbb.html
Company of Heroes is probably the best around at the moment. Yea was looking at that on the website, they have it in asda for 20 quid. Kev
GH Have you played this yet? I'm just trying to download the demo. Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmbb/cmbb.html Owen I have the full game and last night just downloaded the patches. I'm now holding off a Russian with a small group of Fallschirmjager just outside Leningrad!!!
Owen I have the full game and last night just downloaded the patches. I'm now holding off a Russian with a small group of Fallschirmjager just outside Leningrad!!! Once my Hearts of Iron SS Divisions and their French and British allies have completed their 1943 conquest of the USA and Japan I'll send you a few Panzer divisions, easy to escort 'em over with the mighty German Fleet with it's 30 'Aircraft carriers that will last 1000 years!' I take it you mistyped and it isn't just the one russian? If that's the case I should have some Nuclear weapons for you in... oooh the first ones ready... Leningrad you say? Start digging.
VP that pesky russian is a real hard fighter LOL. meant to say brigade!!! btw, might need 1 or two of your carriers to hold him off!!!
Company of Heroes is probably the best around at the moment. Isn't only a top down view though? Can't get away with 'em myself. The advert showed it as a 1st person shooter but my mate said it's more like command & conquer.
Company of Heroes is probably the best around at the moment. I've just started playing, not a bad game at all.
It may just be me but I believe I would be justified saying that Close Combat II: A Bridge Too Far and Close Combat III: The Russian Front are the best strategy games released to date.
I cant get it. Ive been playing Faces of war, I hate it. Takes about 2 weeks to get anywhere and they just annoy me, by bing stupid and standing there while you issue and order and get squashed my a big tank. Juast not working for me. Kev
I love Hearts of Iron. If you like economy strategies or you have play into Europe Universalis, HoI is for you.
Kev, if you want a good simplistic strategy, as I stated earlier check out Close Combat II and III. yep I cant seem to find that.
CCIII: The Russian Front - Eastern Front CCII: A Bridge Too Far - Operation Market garden CCIII is expensive, my guess is becasue it is no longer made unlike CCII. Close Combat also just released a new game Cross of Iron which is based on The Eastern Front and is less expensive than CCIII.
