I might be able to go to the Hilliingdon & Uxbridge Cemetary some stage next week and get a picture of Corporal Roberts grave. I'm just down the road in Harrow.

Managed to get to the Hillingdon and Uxbridge Cemetery today. Eeriely I found Corporal Roberts grave very quickly despite missing the cemetary plan at the entrance and the high number of CWGC graves in the cemetary probably due to it's close proximity to RAF Uxbridge and RAF Northolt.

Owen, Many thanks for your time and trouble in obtaining a 56 Recce headstone. Looks like a lot of damage to other graves in the background.

    Cheers

    Paul,
It looked like work of the local council.
They're so scared of being sued, they knock over headstones themselves incase they fall onto a visitor.
Lots of fuss in the UK over this type of action.

I never knew my grandfather he died before i was born, recently though i have started to research his military service. he joined the royal scots in 1914 and served on the western front 1916 thru to august 1917 being wounded at passchendaele. After returning to france in 1918 i think he had transfered to the royal tank corps, he stayed with the rtc right thru to ww2 rising to rsm, after returning from france in 1940 he was commisioned and posted to recce rgt and to burma and was awarded the mbe, unfortunately he died on his return home. carl hughes grandson
