Recce Cap ?

    Hi everyone , just a quick question , does anyone know the Date 5th Recce were issued with their black RAC cap's, as am trying to date a photo ?:wacko:

    There's some background here, but 'authorised' and 'issued' aren't necessarily the same thing:

    Thanks Idler and Tony56 , I'd say from what I've read that 5th Recce were still wearing the light coloured Berat when they left Italy for Egypt on the 7th June 1944 ? Correct me if I'm wrong :unsure:

    I remember reading that when the Recce Corps were amalgamated into the RAC in 1944 that it took 12 months or more for some Units to change from the sand coloured Beret to the Black Beret.
    This was all down to the Commanding Officer and pride in the Corps.
