I am hoping that someone can help me with deciphering my Grandfathers Record of Service.

According to his RoS he was posted to what looks like Div Amm Coy and has a 54 above it. I have tried searching for this unit but I cannot find anything anywhere. Does anyone recognise this or have any idea what I could be misreading. He was also posted to somewhere that contained 534 in the unit name.

I cannot find anything anywhere that could give me any information and I am stuck as to where to look.

I would appreciate any help that someone may be able to give me.

Div Am Coy would be Divisional Ammunition Company so he would have been involved with the supply and transport of ammunition.

If the 54 indicates 54 division then that would relate to a period of UK service as they were only in the UK before being disbanded.

Are you able to post a copy of the service record ?

Hi. Thank you for getting back to me. I have searched for both Div AM Coy and 54 Div AM Coy but cant find anything. I think his other unit was 534 AM Coy! Does this sound right? I could send you a copy of the RoS but it wouldn't be till next week when Im back at work.

It's always difficult to track down service units as they rarely receive a mention.

I'm sure that the reference is to 54th Division's Divisional Ammunition Company.

54th (East Anglian) Division was disbanded during 1943 and the units were incorporated into 21st Army Group for the forthcoming invasion.

What is the best way for me to get a copy of his record of service to you. You can then take a look at it and see if it makes more sense when you see it. Thanks for your help so far.

    Slater,

Your best bet would be to scan it and post it on here.

A clear digital photograph would be as good.

With a bit more information, we may be able to find out where he went to in 21st Army Group.
