Can someone please help me with the identification of the R.A.S.C. unit for the dates 12/02/1940 to 29/02/1940 from my Grandfather's Service record.

The part that most puzzles me is the name NIT PER Co 1 DEPOT BN and under Promotions etc. DRAFT SER RJ AIN Posted overseas.

I may have miss read them so please see attached.

    Thanks

The second item is probably Draft Ser[ial] RJAIN - overseas drafts were given five-letter codes.

Could NIT be MT - Motor Transport?

Thanks very much for that. Motor Transport makes sense.

Will check out the TNA war diary for 1 Motor Transport Depot.
As far as I know my Grandfather joined the Army as a volunteer. He wasn't drafted.
So not sure about the Draft Serial code?
    Cheers

The draft serial code RJAIN (in your Grandfather's case) was just an army code for embarkation for sailing, that is all.

According to Tom Canning, one of our Veterans, a five letter code was put on the men's kit bags and documents etc before sailing and if it wasn't on there you didn't get on the ship
