My fathers no.T235339. Pt.2 no.37. 6 ad transport coy .rasc 13/2/41. Pt.2 no.145 embarked 26/11/42 (KMF4 ?) W5169. dis-embarked north Africa 6/12/42 Pt.2 no.152 Re-designated 242 ad tpt. coy. 7/4/43. XXX 4099/45 C.T.B. entitled to xxxxx 30/6/45 ( is this CEASED TO BE xxxxx) not sure about this . Would any of the members know of 242 tpt.company or of any war diaries CIRCA 7/4/43-----24/7/45
It might help to see the actual records as there are a number of hits from '6' and 'RASC' with locations in the UK and North Africa but here is a start - and I meant to add, 242 as well. Also I think there was a general renaming / redesignation of RASC units in North Africa in 1943. I'll check when I get home 166/6490 169/11788 169/2242 175/153
As Hutt suggests best to see the original service records for confirmation But have a look through and see if any relate to your enquiry - Search results: 242 coy | The National Archives TD
Good scans of the service records then use the 'upload a file' option, down there on the bottom right hand corner We do have members who offer a very competitive (I mean very) if you need files copying from Kew and you cant get there yourself TD
hi,sorry to bother.have been trying to upload a couple of records but not having much luck, my photos are about 5 or 6 mb.is there a way in the site to reduce the size of picture
think I pressed wrong button. having a problem with my picture size. will have to check with my son-in-law on how to reduce.I will return
Convoy almost certainly KMF4, same as my fathers, although I have no direct diary entry, their brigade and probably the RASC units as well, arrived on the 6th December in Algiers and was mostly disembarked by the following day.
sorry for the delay, will try once more to download papers. it seems to have gone this time hopefully the quality is o k
Hello hutt, I eventually figured it out and apologise for delay. As suggested I have posted my fathers papers for you to see.If it's not to much bother could you have a close look at entry no. 4011/44 and 4099/45 ,I have tried and failed to decipher these entries DAVID
Give me a day or so and I will see if I can get you a better match with diaries at Kew covering the time scales we can now see in more detail. Re the two lines, here is my attempt 4011/44 I would suggest it says Sub- Classified something / HV (heavy perhaps?) then very difficult to decipher. This line may make sense if it is read in conjunction with the entry two lines above where it says he has been Re-Classified xx IA Scale D. If someone can interpret that line, your mystery line two below may begin to make some sense if it does indeed have a relationship. There may also be a clue in the trades undertaken in 242 Armored Division Troop Company and of course if we find a diary, a slim chance of a reference in there. 4099/45 C.T.B is definitely Ceased to be attached. then entitled to Medical perhaps, then an initial perhaps, followed by C.M.F Central Mediterranean Force
Here is a list of diaries that I would look to try and access and which may answer the question in your original posting. Hopefully someone will have another go at deciphering the mystery entries WO166/6490 DIVISIONS: 6 ARMOURED DIVISION: Royal Army Service Corps Troops Company (RASC) 1942 Jan.-Nov. 166 denotes Home Forces and would cover the period leading up to embarking 26 11 42 WO175/153 R.A.S.C. Tps. Coy. 1942 Nov.- 1943 Mar., June. 175 would suggest British North African Forces WO169/11788 Royal Army Service Corps: 242 Company (RASC) 1943 July- Dec. WO170/2469 Companies: 242 Coy. 1944 Jan.- Dec. WO170/5721 Companies: 242 Coy. 1945 Jan.-Dec.
Hello hutt thanks for the updated info (sent 24/2 ). Being north of the border I don't come to London often so will try and see if TD can give me a name to do some research for me. Will be back in touch hopefully with some results. Many thanks DAVID
Hello T.D. I wont be able to go to KEW and was wondering if you could give me a member contact, with a view to getting some war diary copies. I did get 4 or 5 diary numbers from hutt
Both of the following members copy files from Kew professionally. Same cost, both recommended by multiple members here: http://ww2talk.com/index.php?members/drew5233.6786/ http://ww2talk.com/index.php?members/psywar-org.2876/
