I sent for my Grandafther's army records about 9 yrs ago and have just got them out to look at again. I don't understand some of what is on there and wondered if anyone on here would be able to help me out if I type it all up onto here? He was a driver in the RASC but my elderly mother told me that he was dropped into Arnhem.
Hi RedBullracer and welcome to the forum. Your best bet would be to scan the record and post on here as a new thread with your Grandfather's name and 'RASC at Arnhem?' in the thread title. That will attract both RASC and Airborne experts attention. Alternatively put the details here and a friendly Mod might start the thread for you! Good luck. Mike
Maybe he was part of 250 Light Composite Company. http://www.paradata.org.uk/units/250-airborne-light-composite-company-rasc Or HQ 1st Airborne Divisional Column RASC | ParaData And also, this may be of intrest. BBC - WW2 People's War - Recollections of the role played by No: 2 Para Platoon, 250 Company R.A.S.C during the battle of Arnhem
Hi RedBullracer and welcome to the forum. A couple of books you might want to have a look at are "The Fight to Sustain" by Frank Steer and "First Airborne" by Lt. Colonel Michael St. John Packe who was the Commanding Officer, Royal Army Service Corps, 1st Airborne Division at Arnhem. Alternatively if you tell us your Grandfathers details, name, service number etc I'll have a look for you. All the best..............
There were also a large number of RASC men who served as despatchers on the aircraft that initially delivered the troops and subsequently the supplies to Arnhem, many being killed when their aircraft were shot down on these resupply missions. John
Welcome I have quit some info on 250 Company RASC and Airdespatcher, so as mentioned by Paul, if you post this info, no doubt people would be able to help out. history of 250 royal army service corps during Market Garden The site hasn't been update for a long time, but still lot of info about 250, when I have some more time, I will start a new one about the unit,so it doens't stay up my attic
Well I go on holiday to a small Austrian village that houses the international headquarters of Red Bull (the drink) and I've driven round the Nurburgring several times. That's it really !
Thanks for your offers of help and the info so far. Attached (hopefully!) are my Grandfather's details.

Red Bull The dates 13th August to 12th October as serving in N W Europe would appear to point to him being a member of the Seaborne Tail for Operation Market Garden. John

That's a great compliment, thanks As far as my Grandfather goes I also have an A4 document that is typed and is a testing report on an Albermarle aircraft. The crew were Captain Cornish, Sargeant Nutt, Corporal Edge or Eege and my Grandfather Driver Featherstone. It isn't dated but describes a test flight that included simulating a drop of airborne men although panniers were actually dropped. It details the air crew arriving at 08.30hrs and whilst RAF technical personnel were fitting a conveyor (?) the air crew attached parachutes to containers and panniers. It is very detailed, approx 1 and 1/3 pages of notes including recommendations, positions of the crew during the flight and what happened when they opened the hatch doors etc. It's really interesting but obviously looks very old now. I think I should type it up before it gets more illegible.
