Of the c27,000 names on the Rangoon Memorial, only 5 relate to men who actually served with an Air Force (refer to figure 01).

The Burma Volunteer Air Unit (BVAU) was formed in June 1940 and, in early 1941, was renamed the Burma Volunteer Air Force (BVAF).
Further data here: Burma Volunteer Air Force

Herne's name is engraved on Face 111 - as per the CWGC database (refer to figure 02).
The names of the remaining 4 airmen can be found on a metal panel attached to the inner wall of the main memorial (refer to figure 03).

On this panel are also found the names of c500 men who served with various units of the Burmese Forces during WW2.
