Jim is there a way to find out which troop or battery Ron was part of? Would that be recorded somewhere? Thanks John

    Hi John

I believe that RSR headquarters were in Bari Italy but maybe one of the more knowledgeable guys on here can correct me if I'm wrong.
I hope to upload a few of my Grandads pics on here too. My Grandad was in "B" battery and he used to mention the mortars they used.

A slim chance, may have battery assigned to on your grandfather's service record. Other, even slimmer possibility, is RSR War Diaries.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Ok thanks Jim - I’ll keep looking at that. Is there a way that I can get sight of the RSR war diaries? Is this a document that I’ve seen mentioned in threads with a user called ‘Gus’? Also, is it the book that was published by either and Australian or New Zealander survivor? If So, I do have a copy of that. Many thanks again for your help

Just a couple of images I have .
Picture of him with a pal early on I believe as he was later promoted as you can see in the first photo.
His medals that my mum managed to get as he was never bothered about them apparently.
    His release leave certificate.

Link here to what's available at TNA Kew, but no RSR War Diaries have been digitised unfortunately.

Search results: Raiding Support Regiment | The National Archives

Some of the gallantry awards given are available to download, and they can at least state locations sometimes.

Gus (forum member gmyles) is an absolute well of knowledge, especially in relation to Greece, and Gus may well have (possibly) the RSR War Diary covrering there time in Greece (Patforce, Towanbucket etc).

Apologies for this being a bit thin (it's grub up in casa Herriot)

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

I'll dig "THE FILIBUSTERS" out later John and see if any of the RSR mentions within give any clues re your grandfather.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Hi Jim - happy new year. I just wanted to post and update to say that I am STILL waiting on Kew to release Ron’s records. I lodged an FOI request but found that the records were restricted and so apparently it maybe another year. Once I get I formation I will update here. Many thanks John
