RAF Pilot James Cooper - Rank Confirmation Possible, Please?

    It's not quite correct to say that Admiral Prune was Gibson's Lancaster. He did fly it operationally 7 times but Wooldridge and Searby also flew 6 operations each in it and 15 different pilots in total flew it during the course of its 38 ops.

    P/O Jimmy Cooper flew it on 11/12 Aug 1942 on an opertion to Mainz.

    The photo with him in the cockpit of Prune was taken at the 21 Ops stage after the Op to Genoa on 22/23 Oct 1942, although Gibson had actually flown it on that Op.

    Thank you. He is referred to as Pilot-Officer in a 1943 newspaper article, and Radio Officer in the 1946 article which covers his death and funeral
