Sadly the Battle of Britain exhibit was closed and I spent most of the day working in the archives. All the kids were at school though so I could walk round the exhibits in peace :) and got a few pictures

I'd forgotten just how big these things are, the prop blades were bigger than me!

Not the prettiest aircraft ever made, but still striking

The more you look at it, the more ominous it gets..............

The empty car park also allows me to do this, my two favourite past times in one!

Some great pics there, thanks for posting.

The B-24 Liberator in the collection is a B-24L-20-FO (Mk. VIII) Serial KN751

Delivered to No.99 Squadron RAF in Bengal on 26 June 1945. The aircraft also served with No's. 355, 356 and 358 Squadrons before been transferred to the Indian Air Force.

This photo is the same aircraft taken 11 April 1985 at the RAF Museum, Cosford, where the Liberator resided out in the open for some considerable time.

On two occasions I was permitted to go on board the aircraft and photograph the interior extensivley.

Things appear to have changed from my visit several years ago, but the Gloucester Gladiator relic, recovered from the lake in Norway really brought back my memories.

Thankyou for sharing your photographs of what must have been a good day out, apart from the archives.

    Regards

My best effort yet from My own Hendon shots... badly cropped:

'Black 6' - If I recall correctly it's a flyer, but resting after a bit of a rough time.

Was talking to my dad the other day after he'd made another visit there, and he's not too keen on the extreme 'sterility' of Hendon's aircraft, most of 'em being restored to a condition they'd never have seen in service.
I kind of like it but do see what he means; it might be nice to see a few more in 'service condition' with all the scratches, blemishes and dirt that implies. maybe a Spitfire restored (recovered?) in the same way as that superb corsair at Yeovilton:

It appears to be a Datsun 120Y, rather rare these days.

I visited Hendon a couple of months ago, managed to get over 200 photos, it's a wonderful place but I agree that the aircraft are too sterile, and commented as such to my dad ( who came with me ).

This was my first visit for nearly twenty years, I felt that the general appearance of the museum was tired, some of the aircraft were covered in dust or had flaking paint, the display cabinets were also covered in dust and fingerprints. Having said that I still enjoyed my visit as the museum displays some types that you will not see elsewhere.
