My Uncle, Michael Devlin served in the RAF during WW2. I believe he was a regular officer having joined before the outbreak of the War.

I attach a couple of photos one of which has on the back "Outside R.A.F. Mess Helwan, Egypt. 15th May 1941. Taken at mid day. Temp. 118 in the shade."

The second shows his rank shoulder tabs a bit clearer. Squadron Leader? I think he ended up as a Wing Commander or possibly higher.

I do not have his service number or which units he served with. Does anyone know which Squadrons would have been at Helwan Egypt at this time?

    Any help appreciated.

    Jim Devlin
