Hi all, I'm looking for any information people might be able to provide on where to find more information about the histories of RAF Bomb Disposal units as I try to find out more about the service history of my great uncle Reginald Turner. I have attached the records from the RAF below. He seems to have been with various HQ units doing what I am not sure before in March 1944 joining 6236 flight of RAF BD in the Second TAF. He was then with 6218 Flight from May 1945. I have been to the National Archives (actually using their internet now) and unfortunately the file that claims to contain information on 6218 Flight doesn't. Records largely seem to suggest that the flight, and Squadron, were stationed in Germany, but as his records show Reg was at Stavenger and Gardermoen in Norway, presumably clearing munitions from the formerly-occupied airfields there. I can't seem to find any more information myself, so I was wondering if anyone more knowledgable might have a lead. Any assistance would be very much appreciated, many thanks Luke
Others who have expertise in reading such documents will hopefully come along. For background it might help to locate 'Designed to kill : bomb disposal from World War I to the Falklands', pub.1987, by Arthur Hogben. There are no readily identifiable threads here on RAF Bomb Disposal, nor 6236 Flight. Though it is the Army Bomb Disposal memorial website, might there be help there: The Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Officers Club
Luke I am sure others will be along to help this might be of interest to you A short history of RAF bomb disposal - RAF Museum it might also help you Home regards Clive
Hi Just to let you know my late dad, was a member of 6218 (BD) fight in Stavanger in Norway, so he would with your uncle

These American Documents see to indicate that they have some files on RAF Bomb Disposal. I assume that you may be able to look at American archives to see if these are available?? But, I note the date is 1943, so may not help you?? Source: Fold3.com
wow thanks Julie, that's really interesting to know. Do you have the photo at slightly higher res/larger file? I can't quite make out faces there. Would be very interested to know any further information you might have Thanks for posting!
Hi Luke It's the best I can do, to make the face clearer. My dad is fifth on the right. Will keep digging, going back to Stavanger again early next year with my daughter. Just like dad said great place then. Julie
