    Hi,
I joined the site to ask for your help.
I am researching my grandfather who went from UK to India with 1 Bn the Cameronians.(Scottish Rifles)
On his papers it says "Draft RA.XOW" Dated 9/5/42. Does anyone know what this stands for ?

    Thank you
    Alan

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

It’s simply a draft code - usually stencilled on a soldiers kit bag prior to departure.

Thexquestion has been asked many times previously in multiple topics on the forum. Just search for draft codes.

    Proceeded on draft RPHNM

He must have gone to India to JOIN 1 Cameronians; the battalion had been in India at the outbreak of the European war and by 05/42 they were returning to India after retreating from Burma.

Thank you very much Steve. I searched with the letters and it didn't come up with anything. When you know what things are it makes it easier. Thanks again.

Yes I think so. I think he was 9 Bn in the UK doing his training then post to 1 Bn.
