I am new to WW2 talk and would appreciate help from anyone in order to find any details of my late father Gnr.1586294 Ernest Alfred KENDALL. On 11.03.1942 he was posted to 97thHAA(London Scottish) as a donar rider.

I'm in possession of my fathers medals, complete with an oak leaf. On waiting for some 18 months for his Army records there is no record of a Mention in Despatches.

I have obtained a copy of The London Scottish Regimental Gazette dated May 1945 in which it mentions my father being in hospital following a motorcycle mishap and visited by 2 officers(named) whom informed him of his "mention".

I have a vague recollection many years ago of a newspaper cutting at the family home which read on the lines of something like 'His Majesty the King is pleased to announce that Gunner E.A.Kendall was mentioned in despatches. Unfortunately that cutting has been lost.

A couple of questions, Is it usual for that wording for the London Gazette? or were there other publication sources?

Any advice to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
