Hi I'm new to the site, though I would share some photos from by grandads (Peter Maurice Richards) album.
Hi little nervous not used this type of site before so not sure how but sure members will keep me right ha ha!
I see from the CWGC that he was with 22 Field Regt when he was killed. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2082446/RICHARDS,%20PETER%20MAURICE I've PMed Andy who I'm sure has the unit war diary.
Welcome to the Forum and thanks for posting your Grandad's album photos. Headstone photo from the RA Commemoration thread. Originally posted by Drew5233. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/16847-royal-artilleryroyal-horse-artillery-roll-of-honour-1939-47/page-8#entry213739
Many thanks Owen/ramacal My mam was able to visit the cem 10 years ago, for the first time, do have couple of photos of his headstone but many thanks for this one always brings a tear to my eye! Would love information on the unit as we don't have much info about his life in general. My nana met Peter whilst working in the Naafe at Shorncliffe. Peter joined the RHA when he was 13/14 years. He was brought up by carers until he was old enough to join the army. Nana and Peter had only couple of years together before he was lost at Dunkirk. Any information regarding the unit would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks
Have you applied for his full service records from MoD yet? https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#service-records-of-deceased-service-personnel
Thanks for sharing the pictures, they really are great. I've just checked the war diary and sadly it ends on the 26th May and starts again on the 1st June. This would suggest that they were really in the thick of it during this gap.
Could I also ask another massive favour of someone - Could someone do a search on Geoff's or CWGC's SE for me ? I'm looking for Royal Artillery Sergeants (Ideally 22 Field Regiment but I know CWGC doesn't always list the unit) killed between the 30th and 31st May. Neither SE's would work for me and I've run out of time today. I may be onto something
Three come up: 001 FALCONER W 808005 22 FIELD REGT 31/05/1940 ROYAL ARTILLERY 002 LEWIS E 821735 22 FIELD REGT 30/05/1940 ROYAL ARTILLERY 003 RICHARDS PM 809820 22 FIELD REGT 31/05/1940 ROYAL ARTILLERY
Thanks Andrew, Looks like I found the death of Sergeant Eric Lewis documented then, I was hoping it would be your man but the date was wrong. More to follow tomorrow.
