Hi All I am trying to find any information regarding my Dad Frederick Edwards who was in the 151 / 156 parachute battalion A Company, i already have some information from his war records, he was originally in the Worcestershire regiment based in sailkot India and then volunteered for the newly formed parachute regiment on 24 November 1941 and gained the rank of Lance Corporal, he served in North Africa and the Middle East the last entries saying Depot. Some of his training records state that he was an English instructor and also trained at the British Military Hospital and was also St Johns Ambulance first aid, so could he have been a medic?? i have the book From Delhi to Arnhem, by John O'Reilly and a very good read it is, it also has my Dad's name in the back. Unfortunately he passed away in 1976 and never spoke of his war years so any information would be great, i'm also hoping to find some photos of him during this time and i still have his medals. cap and arm badges and L/Corporal stripes. Great site by the way. Cheers Malcolm.
Malcolm, There are a good many people here, and elsewhere, who I am sure will be able to assist you in your research. If you use facebook, there are two very good closed groups about Airborne matters. If you send me a PM I can give you the links to them. Regards Andy
Andy I think that new members need a posting level of 5 posts before they can start sending PM's, I am not sure if it is the same the other way around i.e. perhaps you can send them a PM, to which they would be able to reply. I am not 100% on this just something I seem to recall form some time back TD
Welcome. My Father joined 151st Paratrooper Battalion November 1941. He was a Duke of Wellington. He too never spoke of ww11. I found a couple of items when he had passed away. Then sent for his Service records, war diaries etc. I have his Paratrooper wings, one group photograph ( A stick) 1942. A printed menu. With Compliments of the seasons from LT. COL. M. A. Lindsay. 25-12-41. Paradata.org.uk has information and a good audio account of the early formation of 151st India. Regards, Veronica.
151/156 Parachute Battalion still hold an annual reunion for Veterans of the Battalion and their families at Melton Mowbray each October. A very good way to meet lots of people with an extensive and in depth knowledge of this short lived unit John
Thank's for the links Andy and cheers for the heads up John about the reunion, can you just turn up or do you need to register in some way. Yes Veronica Paradata's a good site and full of information, i have put an article on there about my Dad but unfortunately i put the wrong photo of him because i found a photo taken of the Worcestershire regiment in Sialkot India from 1939 (when my Dad was there) and one of the soldiers army number ended with 9993 and Dad's was 9950 so i picked someone that i thought looked like him, but i'm sure now that it's not  Could anyone shed some light on one of his medals, it's the Africa Star but it has an 8th Army clasp on the ribbon, any info would be great.
