Hi, I now live in Italy and help out with a group here called 'Wartime Friends' Wartime Friends they help veterans and their families who visit the graves and battle sites of northern Italy.

They also keep their memories alive with school inputs etc (Have a look at their site)

They have a request from a local here to help to try and trace a former Queens Own RWK POW (or his descendants) who when held in a camp here befriended a local and drew a picture of the locals wife which they still treasure to this day and is displayed in a local museum.

His details are: Pte. H H Parker 6347124 RWK. He was held in Camp 73 Carpi, Fossoli, Italy then when the Germans took over in Sept 43 was moved to Stalag XVII-b in Krems Austria.
He made it back to the UK as I have a record of him getting 112 days for being AWOL this is dated April 46 in Gravesend.
The Italians want to get in touch with his descendants to thank them and show the picture to them.

Thats all I have for now, I also sent this same message to the Regiment Museum and also to the Queens Own West Kent group as well,

I would appreciate any help at all with this, thanks

    Bill

Nothing new for you Bill, but here is confirmation of him being held at Camp 73 in 1943. This is from the file WO392/21 held at the National Archives in London:

Thanks, I have this and also the attached, it seems Pte. Parker liked going AWOL as well, once it looks like in training and another when he was back in the UK after the war. Camp 73 is in Italy and when they capitulated in 43 the Germans moved all the POW's to Stalag 17B in Austria. I'm after info of Pte Parker when he got back to the UK and any family of his that might be around.
