I expect that all this time the Queen will be having her smirk watching all the mess unwinding itself :)

See D-Day hogging all the limelight again.

65 years ago the breakout from Anzio was happening & I think there was some action in Burma, though they are Forgotten.

3rd June today, Sgt Rogers , 2 Wilts dies winning a VC 65 years ago

Absolutely correct Owen. Somehow I cant see the 65th Anniversary of the Offensive that smashed the Wehrmacht, Operation Bagration, generating as much interest.. Its on the 22nd June by the way :D

Not to mention the War at Sea, both by Military and Merchant Navies (of all allies), the Bomber War and the US push across the Pacific, all greatly overlooked at this time of commemorating the Normandy Landings

Indeed Jim. D-Day should of course be acknowledged but it was one day in a long war and the world didnt stand still whilst it happened, as the popular media would have us believe.

Well said, I agree with all your comments.
Some WW2 conflicts, regardless of hardships and suffering are
forgotten due to lack of publicity.

Maybe we should have a remembrance section for all the significant battles throughout WW2.

It could be a bit of a learning centre so battles like Alamein, Anzio, Arnhem, Stalingrad, Kohima, Iwo Jima and the like are always remembered?

Any members that want to could then post something to commerate the battle like the details of a fallen soldier from somewhere like the CWGC site.

    Regards
    Andy

Everyone remembers Market Garden, but not the battles that happened afterwards.

It should also be for the lesser known battles. They were also significant in their way. Victories and Defeats.

In my opinion he has made his place in the history books though.... 'The worst Prime Minister ever'.

    Just my opinion you understand.

Not just yours though... he did get rated as less popular than Chamberlain, that's going some. B)

As for your mentioning of the Jews, please be careful when treading these waters, since British exceptionalism will not pass on this one. Perhaps you may wish to visit the Holocaust Museaum in Washington D.C., the next time you're here. Coincidentally, at this very moment there is an interesting expose on the German occupation of the Channel Islands. It goes without saying that the exhibit gives a stinging critique of the behavoir island residents showed towards the tiny Jewish presence there.

What's the exhibition called and do you have a link please?

The French are blaming the French tonight according to Channel Four news in a interview with a French journalist in Paris.

Ahhhh, this is permitted then? ;)

All (or at least most) history is put out by the winning side, many times by those who never saw any real action (or were shot at)---keep up the good work of mentioning ALL who served in any action----Cheers and for me "there will always be an England-----"

Well, we could lend-lease them one of our battleships....for old times sake!

The museum ship USS Texas! She was at Normandy. :)
Her sister ship USS New York bit the dust at Bikini along with another Normandy veteran, USS Arkansas
