Thought I should put this in a separate thread. I am just listening to a podcast chat with Steven Bright about the Canadian "Z" Force on Iceland. There was a mention of trying to jury-rig some anti-tank defences using water pipes. Did the British or Americans ever post any armour to the island? (I presume not.) I searched the IWM online photos and only turned up a mock tank used as a target for anti-tank practice.
It would appear the 1st Marine Brigade (Provisional) included a 'shortened' Tank Company (Co A of 2nd Light Tank Battalion, less one Platoon) which arrived in Iceland in June 1941. HyperWar: Outpost in the North Atlantic: Marines in the Defense of Iceland Gary
Interesting! I wonder what tanks the Marines had at that point. I watched a discussion about Marine tanks a while ago.
I noticed that the wiki page mentioned them... Allied occupation of Iceland - Wikipedia ...and there are some details here... The Evolution of Marine Tanks
