But, then again it could be a feindishly clever field observation tower, judging by the basket, size and handle grips... mobile, room for two at a squeeze, very easy and quick to raise and lower on the cable hoist, just like modern cherry pickers. Just a thought!

Just a thought! Not as daft as it sounds in the very flat & featureless Western desert
Flat and featureless? Here's Halfaya Pass. http://www.afrika-korps.de/galerie/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=927&g2_serialNumber=2
Yes, largely flat & featureless, with obvious exceptions along the escarpment. "Largely" would have been a better word to have included originally I will concede.
Just pulling your leg Actually I have a photo of something like Cameronlad suggests, a truck with a metal framed observation tower on top. It must be on some old magazine as I can't find it.
Chaps, uncommon of me to try and keep threads on track (usually me that does the diverting), but this one was a nice dense little thread on Panzer Is, can we keep it that way please. ~A But, then again it could be a feindishly clever field observation tower, judging by the basket, size and handle grips... mobile, room for two at a squeeze, very easy and quick to raise and lower on the cable hoist, just like modern cherry pickers. Just a thought! You mean Drew's shots in post #28? It is definitely a demolition charge carrier. Interesting - are those flaps hanging down evidence of having dropped a charge? I'd sort of assumed the whole box fell, but this makes much more sense. Earlier 'Ramp' version: What I can't find, is much on it's actual tactical use, whether for clearing physical obstacles, or Minefields. Also wondering how it was detonated -wireless? Wired? Or even timed? Maybe all three... I suppose as soon as Goliath and the Borgward/Sd.Kfz300 series funklenkpanzer mobs etc. found their feet, all these methods became a little irrelevant.
MILITARIA • Toon onderwerp - Panzer I Series [WO II - D] Seems that there was also version of Panzer II charge layers, and it was used on the East Front (last post on the page 1) Axis History Forum • View topic - Ladungsleger I
