Did they make any additional preparations for this? (other than the website, which may create more snow)

Finally have letter from CWGC about him.
All their records state date of death is 11 June 1944.
I'll need some original documentation to prove it's actually July.
I'll have to get his death certificate & send it to them.

    Death certificate just arrived .
Here's a scan showing date of death 11.7.1944
Will be sending to CWGC soon.
noticed they called him Shelton not Sheldon.
Be nice if a relative saw this thread & posted a photo.

Sent them the death cert I got last year that cost me £9.25.

Have now emailed a scan of it I took.

Am not too happy about it, weird, as he's not a relative, haven't got a photo of him.
Just it's that he wore a wyvern like I did at his age.

When I find a non-comm (and I've found 8), I feel responsible for them until it is sorted. Weird. Luckily, they have all been sorted, so I'm free again.

    OK heard back from CWGC.

They hadn't lost anything , as I never put my surname on my recent ( chasing up) email to them they assumed what my surname was & so couldn't find my original enquiry. Now they have my surname they could find the correspondence .
The death certificate was passed on to the Records Team regards amendment.
They will give me feed back on how that is going.

If I want his name corrected I need to get a birth certificate now.

They have asked for this to help.

This could include service records, war diaries, pension records, etc. You may also wish to procure a newspaper obituary.

Right just back from post office , sent 2 letters 'signed for' at £1.73 each , sent off cheques for 30 quid for service records & £9.25 for birth certificate.
(yes I could have ordered birth certificate online )

Have also asked another member to check war diary for casualty list (I only have the transcribed war diary from The Wardrobe)
CWGC wont accept casualty list from the Battalion History which I also have.

Why am I spending all this money on someone who isn't a relative ?
    Cos I am.

I've lost count of the money I've given to a government department to get stuff to send to another government department to fix a government department fault . And I paid tax on the money. Who's the real fool?

    Got his birth certificate yesterday.

It's says SHELTON on there so CWGC have got that right.
    Death certificate has name wrong.

As he died on 11th July not June we would have just turned 19, as he born 2nd July 1925.

    Admirable perseverance, sir! Top man!
Let's hope this is finally resolved - by 2nd July, his "90th" birthday???
perhaps closer to 100th before it's done!!!

    Service Records arrived today.
Interesting to find out he had dual Nationality, his Father was American.
He didnt turn up for basic training on the correct day .
This is the bit that proves me right.

Now to get them emailed to CWGC.

Service Records added to album here as I'm, hoping a relative will find this threead & these docs.
I'd love to see a photo of him.

    They've done it. :)

    Date of Death: 11/07/1944

though he would have just turned 19 but not so worried about that, date of death more important to me to be correct

Hope headstone gets corrected too, I doubt if I'll be back that way for awhile so hope one of your lovely members will take a photo of the corrected headstone for me.

I'm sure they will amend the date in time. I found a headstone in Leopoldsburg War Cemetery with one letter missing from a surname and CWGC put in a brand new one 18 months later.

I asked them for a photo of the replacement Headstone for the Family, who I'd been in contact with, but they were not so obliging with that request.
