Private G. McKay 2874700 Orthes Squad Gordon Highlanders

A friend of mine found a book on the history of the Gordon Highlanders amongst items left by his father. All he knows of his families military history is one served in France during WW1 and another he believes was in Burma during WW2.

From the service number I'm assuming this Private G. McKay was the WW2 relative. Can anybody shed some light on him?
