Hi, can naybody tell me if there are any records held refering to POW's who lost there lives trying to escape. I am trying to confirm if 919167 Gnr James Kyneston of the 95th Fd Regt RA who died on the 18th Nov 1942 was shot whilst trying to escape. He is buried in Milan cemetery ( the CWGC records state that most of the army personnel buried there are POWs). Any leads or info would be greatly appreicated, Cheers, Rick
Evasion and Escape Reports NA, Kew, also War Crimes Reports Certainly wouldn't be in the Escape and Evasion reports as these were only for those who were successful in their escape. The War Crimes Investigation files are more likely but often you will have to look at the file as the catalogue subject doesn't give names of individuals concerned it will simply say something like "shooting of Allied prisoner". If you know the POW camp where the event happened this would be the best starting point for any search. Good luck John
I have seen escape reports in which there was a mentioning of so and so got shot or was last seen by such and such person.

I ask because many of the CWGC records which refer to PoW`s generally refer to those who `died` in captivity and not always shot whilst trying to escape . There are currently medals for sale on E-Bay WW2 POW CASUALTY LIEUT 8th DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY MEDALS on eBay (end time 13-Feb-11 17:59:23 GMT) these belong to a DLI officer who is `assumed to have `died` whilst escaping the truth as can be seen in the newpaper cutting I have attached is far more tragic than even the sellar could ever have imagined however the majority of deaths in captivity I would assume would be put down to `natural causes` or the results of `wounds received`. The news clipping which states Lieut Dees was 6th DLI is incorrect it was infact 8th DLI.
