Can anyone tell me if the NA hold any returns for battalions in the UK between 1923 and 1939 or is it down to what individual museums hold ? I imagine that even in peacetime there was some centralised record keeping ,
Can anyone tell me if the NA hold any returns for battalions in the UK between 1923 and 1939 or is it down to what individual museums hold ? I imagine that even in peacetime there was some centralised record keeping , Hi, When I first came to this forum I read about enlistment and discharge return books if I remember, these, it was established were offered to the regiments by the NA some took them the rest I think were destroyed Kyle Edit just checked it was here http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/durham-light-infantry/22083-invaluable-resource-tools-enlistment-discharge-books.html
Thanks for that link. I had in mind more general records such as locations, movements, exercises, vehicle establishments and that sort of thing. I assume that there was some sort of peacetime diary, prior to mobilisation ?
All of the above will be held on Quartermaster General's Records for the period. Then the third ranking member of the board after CIGS and Adjutant General. The CEO of the army in today's terms. The kit, the manning and all from buttons to bombs is his department. Where units were located and all admin and logistics to keep them on the orbat.
