A relative sent me a PowerPoint of the Swiss Air Force F-18s doing an airshow at Ebenfluh. Ebenfluh is 7600ft (2300m) up and the shots are stunning. There are pics at all angles, below, side and above, of the aircraft at or beyond Mach 1 and very close to and below the spectators.

I'm not interesed in pulling the pics out of the PP and I don't guess I have a way to post the PP on this site, so if you would like for me to send you the PP, send me a PM today and will try to send it out tonight when I get home, as I cannot send it from my work and filters prevent attachments to my yahoo account while I am at work.

Thanks for posting the pics Kyt. You are the man.

Edit- I appreciate Kyt taking the time to extract the pics, I was too lazy to do it.

A friend of mine sent me this PP file recently - great stuff; the Swiss don't have a reputation of being fun guys but the Swiss Air Force are clearly the exceptions.

Kyt - how do you convert the pics to JPG and save them individually? I've never worked out how to do anything with them.

Kyt - how do you convert the pics to JPG and save them individually? I've never worked out how to do anything with them.

    • First open Powerpoint
    • Then open the PPS file - you'll get a list of slides that make up the presentation
    • Then you have to 'right-click', and copy each slide and then paste into a picture programme (I use MS paint)
    • Finally save as a jpeg
There are a couple of programs that claim to do this easier but they're pretty crap and fail more often than they work

If you have problems opening the slideshow in powerpoint as individual slides (as I initially did) then one can open them in a OpenOffice. This is a free package, and is safe. Once downloaded, right click the PPS presentation, and use 'Open with'. Unfortunately, you'll still have the tedious job of following the steps 2 to 4 above.

I bet someone will now come along and tell us about an easier way of doing this. No-one in the ethergeek world could find a better way (that I could find).

I have a suspicion that my problem is I don't have Powerpoint on my machine, only Powerpoint Viewer. I can't find a 'copy' command by right-clicking or otherwise. Is this where the "OpenOffice" might come in.
Or, I could email the file to my work PC and use its Power Point facility....

I don't usually recommend freeware programs because there's always that niggling thought that they may not be safe. However, OpenOffice has been getting rave reviews because it's comparable to MS Office (for most people's everyday needs anyway) and it's been reviewed in the Sunday Times.

Get with the program, for free - Times Online

I don't use it much myself but it's there as a backup on my computer (and there's a few other free programmes reviewed in that article too).
