POW Camp Skipton area

    Hi i've just been told that my wifes uncle was a guard at the above camp. My question is what would his service status been as he was a guard, also where excatly was the camp.

    He would have been classed as Home Service

    My Yorkshire geography is a bit ropey
    do any of these fit the bill?
    Sandbeds Camp Selby
    Storwood camp Melbourne
    Eden Camp Old Malton
    Racecourse Camp Ripon
    Naeburn Camp

    Which war time are you referring to? There were two camps that I am aware of :-

    1. Raikswood in WW1 and
    2. Overdale in WW2.

    Try looking for Camp 60 apparantly it was just of the A59, the site I think is now the Overdale Caravan Park.

    The camp held both Germans and Italians, they used to be allowed to work on the local farms.

    my great granddad's dad was an italian prisoner there
