Now I just know that one of you clever people out there will tell me all I need to know about this chap. Prisoner of war No 7971 RSM Robert McLean DCM. possibly captured Dunkirk area from 1st Camerons or was he 4th Camerons, St. Valery. Where was he held? Many thanks in advance.
Are you sure you've got the right POW number? The closest I can find is: 7978 - Sjt R MacLean, Army Nu:2928241, Cameron Highlanders.
Had a look for all DCM winners in Camerons online at TNA and can't find him. The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Search Results

Is there somewhere on line I can check his POW number? Think his DCM might have been pre war in Palestine, Owen.
Just searched online for that Army number and got this. A WW1 soldier. In a book called, Prisoners of War British Army 1939-1945. It's an Alphabetical Nominal Register of all British POW's in March 1945. Out of curiosity, we have two different spellings of his surname, which one is correct. McLean or MacLean
His great Nephew spells it McLean !!! He sent me this amongst other photo's with the following on the back. 4th Bt Camerons with one member of Australian Camerons at Fort XV. 1942. stamped with Die Aushandigung des Fotos an Kr. Gef. ist genehmigt M-Stammlager XXA
